Investing In Excellence

Transforming Medicine, Transforming Lives

In laboratories and classrooms, in operating rooms and clinics, the future of health care is rapidly taking shape at Keck Medicine of USC. New insights into the human genome, stem cells, nanotechnologies, and molecular medicine are dramatically accelerating progress. This biomedical revolution will create the following:

  • new knowledge,
  • technologies,
  • treatments, and
  • cures that will
    • reshape the practice of medicine and
    • improve the lives of millions of people around the world.
Today, Keck Medicine of USC stands at the forefront of this new age of medicine and health care. With an outstanding medical school, as well as exceptional hospitals, research institutes, and integrated physician practices, Keck Medicine of USC is a leader among the top medical enterprises in the world and is poised to play a pivotal role in transforming the health of our community and our society.

Our aim

To achieve our vision of creating the most influential medical center of the Pacific Rim, we must continue to recruit and retain stellar faculty, and we must provide them with state-of-the-art laboratories and clinics to help them create solutions for the key medical challenges of our time. We must continue to educate tomorrow’s physicians to be leaders in medical practice and patient care. We must continue to foster our unique culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and our global perspective. And through our two privately owned hospitals—Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital—and faculty physician practices, we must continue to serve hundreds of thousands of patients annually from Southern California and around the world.

Fulfilling such immense potential requires immense resources. USC recently launched a $6 billion campaign, Fas Regna Trojae: The Campaign for the University of Southern California—the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the history of higher education. Among its most critical priorities is the Keck Medicine Initiative, which aims to raise $1.5 billion—25 percent of the overall campaign goal.

As we set the course ahead—advancing knowledge, reinventing medical practice, preparing tomorrow’s practitioners and researchers for positions of leadership in this new world of health care, and establishing one of the most influential biomedical research corridors in the world—it is the Keck Medicine Initiative that will ensure our success. Our goal, like our vision, is ambitious, but this initiative will result in an extraordinary transformation in the ways we understand, treat and cure diseases, and improve the quality of life for individuals and families in our community and globally.
